CARE AND RESIDENTIAL HOMES

Hello, my name is Danny Lee Grew, and I am a full time professional magician with 15 years experience.

You may have received a letter from me offering a magic show for your residents. After speaking with many activity organisers, I thought I should put a dedicated page on my website answering some of your questions before booking me and my show.

  • Before I had enough relevant performing experience to perform magic professionally, I was working in the NHS. I started as a administrator, and developed skills through training before moving into roles such as Health Advisor and as Clinical Support Officer assisting in minor procedures.

During my NHS career, I built up my magic business and was performing 100 shows per year outside of my working hours, using annual leave to fulfil engagements further afield. My magic became more popular with audiences and my performing schedule more demanding, with many international shows and offers of long contracts at sea, meaning I had to choose one or the other. I left the NHS to fulfil my dream of being a professional magician.

  • I now travel all over the UK in theatres and holiday resorts, where shows usually take place during the evenings. Being away from home most of the time, I find myself looking for things to do during the daytime. After seeing most of the tourist attractions on my travels, I started contacting care and residential homes in the area to offer my magic show for a reasonable rate, plus provide something different and unique for you and your residents.

  • Yes. With my previous NHS experience, and understanding of confidentiality; I have catered my performance to work in this environment so those with mobility restrictions can feel included and interact with the magic from their seats. My impressive tricks are carefully selected, nothing blue or crude. I now have hundreds of performances under my belt within this sector and you can see some of the photos shared by homes on their social media pages.

You can see my resume on the ‘About’ section of this website, but you will find all the relevant information about my visit below.

  • My performances are 45 minutes in length.

  • Each show includes magic, illusion, plenty of laughs, gasps and sleight of hand sorcery.

  • I don’t need much space at all. Just a spot to stand and perform where all residents can see clearly. I also need 1 plug socket to plug my small PA system so that the residents can hear clearly.

  • I arrive 45 minutes before the scheduled showtime. This will give you ample time to scan DBS, ID, public liability insurance. The show itself takes less than 20 minutes.

  • You can either pay by Cash, Card or BACS bank transfer.

I travel with a card reader so can take payment on the day.

  • During the pandemic, I developed a full show that was compliant with the rules. A fully socially distanced magic show that required no volunteers, and can be performed if the residents prefer to just watch. At no point during my visit do I poke fun, humiliate, or patronise residents or staff on or off the stage. It is a safe space.
